HEWLETT-Packard has lifted the lid on a highly integrated new technology it says delivers the best level of colour consistency yet across a range of different devices.
HP said the HP DreamColor Technologies built on its 20 years in the printing and digital imaging industries and aimed to give its customers “the assurance of producing accurate, predictable and consistent colour” from device to device.
Announced at the US Photo Marketing Association show in Las Vegas, the system will be made available first to the graphic-intensive creative sector, and to the professional photography market through select HP printers.
HP experts say colour perception is a complex phenomenon and accurately matching colours, time after time, from display imagery to print has been a long-standing challenge for imaging engineers.
There hasn’t been an easy way to effectively control colour reproduction between various input devices, processing steps and output devices.
HP DreamColor is a step toward a solution in which all devices involved in the capture, design, editing and printing process use sensor-based, closed-loop control systems for definitive colour reproduction.
“We’ve tapped the in-depth experience at HP to deliver the highest standard of digital colour consistency across our broad product line,” said HP Imaging and Printing Group executive vice president Vyomesh Joshi.
“HP DreamColor will provide our customers with the confidence that their artistic intent will be preserved as they move from device to device in the workflow.”
